MER (European Countryside Movemetnt) and its partners met on 1st  June  in Brussels. In its preamble, the President of RED and MER, Gérard Peltre, stressed that particular moment when the negotiations started for a long time came in their concrete phase for a better consideration of the rural world in Europe. It is, once again, to get yourself heard, to converge harmoniously the interests of some and others in establishing the respective agendas, especially between urban and rural worlds. Rural life must fully play its part, it is the reaffirmed ambition of MER.  It was also, in particular, to make the point about the public consultation on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy. On this subject, first observation, the analysis of the feedback from the Member States of the EU revealed major distortions in terms of percentage of responses within how the conduct consultation and the possibility of artificially results obtained by computing, depriving the review undertaken of the expected credibility.

The morning of the 1st June also met in brussels the Group RUMRA (Rural, Mountainous and Remote Areas) chaired bu the European Deputy Mercedes Bresso. The collected echoes of participants in both events, are positive.

Also on the agenda, the preparation of the next meetings: the Civil Society Days from 26 to 27 June and the seminar on “Rural and urban dimensions, moving towards more social and territorial cohesion” and the MER communication in view of the meeting of Agriculture and Rural Development DG on 7 July.

Patrice Collignon, MER Coordinator and Director of RED, announced his departure in retirement and participated in its last meeting. He will be replaced in his post by Marie-Noëlle Neven.

Michel Baylac and Hervé Delambre warmly thank Patrice Collignon for the excellent work done during all its years of activity and wish good luck to who will succeed him in his post. A convivial tribute will be paid to Patrice Collignon on 7 June in Brussels.
